We celebrated Evie’s first birthday today. I will post pictures and a recap of the celebration tomorrow. As I reflect back on today. . . I know that my daughter felt celebrated. I know she felt loved. I know she had a blast. And I know that I am blessed to be her mommy. Today is Orphan Sunday. A day to remember kids who’s birthdays pass by with out a celebration. Without family and friends circled around singing and lavishing them in gifts and love.
Right now my daughter is playing on the floor with her new toys. . .completely secure. She isn’t worried about when she will be fed next- her tummy is full. She isn’t worried if she is loved- she was hugged and kissed all day long. But there are kids in China. . . in Uganda. . .and down the street who were not loved on today. Who don’t have a mom and dad. And it’s heartbreaking.
Jonathan and I pray often about how God wants us to intervene on behalf of the parentless. And while we have some idea of what that might look like in the future for our family. . . we help how we can help now. And I want to ask you to join us.
My friend Kendra and her husband Rick are in the process of bringing home two little girls from Uganda. Here is a quick blurb about their family I took from her site:
We are a family with 3 kiddos so far, 2 of which came the old-fashioned way, and 1 of which came after a looooong adoption journey which ended with a waiting child in Uganda. He is a sweet addition to our family! And now the journey continues as we seek to bring home his two best friends–two little girls who will be 4 years old soon.
Here is a picture of Duncan and his parents. . . on his first birthday with his family. . .
Every child should be celebrated on their birthday!!! (photo from here)
YOU can help bring home Kendra and Rick’s two daughters and here is how.
Kendra and Jonathan collaborated to design an awesome T-shirt that is for sale here. All proceeds fund their adoption.
Visit Kendra’s etsy shop here. All proceeds also fund their adoption.
Visit my etsy shop here. 25% of all my proceeds from now until November 20 will be donated to fund Kendra & Ricks adoption.
